The Cinemavision goggles were installed in our MRI at Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, August, 2011. We heard about the benefits of the goggles at various Child Life conferences and were lucky enough to have the project funded by a charity group who support our hospital by providing high ticket items that will enhance our patient's hospital stay.
As the Child Life Specialist in the Pediatric Sedation Center, the goggles have significantly changed the game for me and the patients I work with everyday. In the month the system has been up and running, I have seen the number of children complete their scans without sedation double. Prior to the movie goggles, our patients were able to listen to Pandora or a CD of their choosing. Many of our school age/ teenage patients were able to complete MRI’s with preparation and the music. With the goggles I have seen younger patients easily complete their testing without sedation and older kids sit for very long scans
Just last week an 8 year old patient was prepped for a 40 minute MRI, however as more and more scans were ordered, her testing time quickly took up 3 hours. She was as happy as could be leaving the MRI, having watched a movie and two episodes of Looney Tunes.

Funds raised during the 2010 I Care for Kids Radiothon provided a state-of-the-art upgrade for the pediatric MRI equipment used at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, including MRI movie goggles. These amazing goggles make the MRI experience less intimidating and more enjoyable for our pediatric patients while staff works to care for them.
Children’s Miracle Network is pleased to share this note that we received from Dr. Michael Moore regarding these special goggles for kids.
On behalf of the Division of Pediatric Radiology, we are very pleased to announce the installation of a set of MRI Video Goggles!
The MRI Video Goggles were purchased on our patient’s behalf by Children’s Miracle Network—we are extremely grateful. MRI allows us to obtain top quality imaging which greatly enhances the care of our patients.
This valuable tool is widely employed in pediatric oncology, neurology, cardiac, neurosurgical and orthopedic care. While MRI is extremely important in caring for our patients, there are some challenges to patient comfort while obtaining this vital information. The imaging can take sixty minutes or more to complete. This means asking children to remain still throughout the test which is often difficult and uncomfortable given the surroundings.
Fortunately, the MRI Video Goggles can help alleviate patient discomfort. Utilizing movie goggles in the MRI will allow our pediatric patients to watch movies. This valuable distraction helps improve patient comfort. We are very happy to announce that we will be able to offer this service to many of our pediatric patients undergoing MRI.
Thanks again,
Michael M. Moore, M.D.
